Page views up; earnings down

Over the past few weeks my page views have been substantially higher than they were before that, but strangely my earnings have actually been significantly lower. So when you work out the earnings per 1000 views it has dropped by a tremendous amount. Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know why this might be? Has Hubpages changed the way they pay out perhaps? Would really love to know what is going on.

This happens to me all the time too.  I think it happens when someone shares a hub, and a whole bunch of people come to it, but they don't click on any ads.  That would make each ad worth less, so you get paid less for each impression.  That's just my guess.

It's happening to me also.  Traffic is up but revenue is waaaaaay down.  It takes a week now to earn what I used to earn in one day.  I wish HP was more transparent about revenue rather than leaving us guessing.  It makes it difficult to write hubs.  How do we know which topics have the highest payouts?

That really is bad. Mine is not down that much. But yes I would like to know which topics have a higher payout too.

Ah; thank you Millionaire Tips. That does make sense. I do have one hub that is getting a huge amount of views (averaging over 300 per day for the past month or more) so that could explain it.

You can check the traffic sources on that hub to see if they are coming from the search engines or some other way .  Maybe you can add more interactivity - videos, polls, quizzes, etc., to see if you can get people to stay there longer and click on things.

Hmm; strangely enough they are almost all from Google (it is my only hub with a page 1 ranking for the long tail phrase). And it also has a 5 star view duration. I have two videos and a poll on it, but could look at adding something else.

I saw an article a couple of weeks ago that stated that advertisers' revenue per click is down. This likely impacts what advertisers are willing to pay per click.

Thanks Blueheron; I didn't see that.

Late August is often a very dry time for ad revenue, as companies really focus so much on the post-Labor Day period that is approaching.

Thanks Relache; that's useful to know too.

My earnings are 60% of what they were 5 weeks ago. Discouraging. I hope Relache is right!
