Ten months, twenty followers.  Is there a way to not link the number of people you follow to your profile rating?  I mean, I know my writings are boring, but I figure more people would be interested in some light reading to put them to bed at night.

your articles are not boring, just add in the keywords that people would type at google search, you will find more traffic

It's nice you have 20 followers.Just do the things you think that it may increase the  number of your followers. By applying the things being learned in the educational resources there's a way  for improvement.

Followers are irrelevant, if you're here to make money from your Hubs.

You earn money from readers who find your Hub on Google or Bing or Yahoo, not from followers.  Followers are just other writers here on HubPages.  Socialising with other Hubbers by following, commenting and forum posting is a great way to keep motivated and learn your craft, but it won't help you get traffic.
