In doing this you can easily get discouraged. I know from experience. I stopped in my earlier years
The key is to learn and grow, not just continue on with writing that does not succeed. HP is a great place for this, and as you start to make improvements you'll see good results. It took me years to figure out what I needed to do, but once I did, everything fell into place.
Well, don't let the big fish bite you, don't look too much to what other people do. There's always something you can do better than others. Think positive and just keep writing and do your own thing.
