Bump!
It was started by me, when I first came to HubPages. I did it as a joke, because of the name of the thread.... "Last one to post is the Winner!(redux) is to keep everyone on their toes.
I simply use the "bump" to move someone OUT of the last spot and take it for myself. I did it so much to begin with, it took on a life of it's own.
Hence, why there is a bump and what it is for. Thank you for asking.
I'm actually quite proud of it, something I started, and remains alive 5 months later, because I'm not the only one doing it.
I think it's pretty cool, how it took on a life of it's own.

Thanks for the explanation - now I can also "bump" people out of the winning spot - don't like following a practice that I don't understand (I'm not a sheep)
