B.C., I tried to locate the text to which you refer...but couldn't.  Checked your profile and the B.C. hub.  Since Crazd couldn't find it either, I could go around feeling justified.  On the other hand, I also went right past a rather obvious display of stocking caps (now called "cuff hats", of all things) in Wal-Mart today, too.

Even so, I do have a touch of experience with having had to do things I didn't want to do.  It's never pleasant.

B.C., now I'm just plain confused--how does this explain what you had to do today that you did not want to do?  (Scratches bald head)

Doesn't matter what we say (as long as we keep it clean, of course).  And the winner isn't exactly chosen.  The winner is the last one to post.  Since that may be 1,000 years from now, though, there's no need to order celebratory cigars quite yet. lol

  16. profile image0
    Ghost32posted 15 years ago

Oh, okay!  Guess I would have missed that point, regardless.  Not because you don't have every right to suffer when it comes to parting with something personally  precious to you, but because I deliberately  burned that  reaction out of my personal repertoire in 1984.  In the interest of purging myself of "old attachments", I literally threw almost everything I owned into a dumpster in Portland, Oregon.  Right down to my baby  pictures, my high school Valedictorian trophy, and a large colored photo of the best winning professional bull ride I ever made in my rodeo career.

Did hang onto necessary clothing and--wouldn't you know--my science fiction novel manuscripts....big_smile

  19. profile image0
    Ghost32posted 15 years ago

Awwww....  EX bull rider, anyway.  Grew up on a Montana ranch, "ranch raised and rodeo bred".  Never did make it to the National  Finals but was on track to get there when I suddenly realized it was time to hang up my spurs and do something else with my  life.  Let me tell ya, THAT will shake up your psyche, just flat out spur-of-the-moment slap down what had been a life goal for years and head out in an entirely new direction.

Could be a bit of reason for what eventually became those 7 marriages (Pam and I've been together 13 years now, still hooked at the hip) AND two bankruptcies...lol

  26. profile image0
    Ghost32posted 15 years ago

Well, you two, I DO appreciate the appreciation!  And yes, I'm still a real cowboy...right down to wearing a cowboy hat (due to the fierce Arizona sun) and building the walls of our new home with the use of barbed wire.

A house made of barbed wire?  It works like this:  The walls are constructed of sandbags filled with dirt right from our land--in fact, it's the actual dirt removed when the contractor dug the trenches for our septic system.  Two rows of 4-point barbed wire are laid between layers of earthbags and act sort of like velcro, holding everything together.

But no livestock, unless you count our 3 cats, 1 leopard gecko, 2 baby kangaroo rats we rescued and raised and returned to the wild, a few field mice we've saved, and the 4-foot Mojave green rattlesnake that recently leaped 9 feet down into our "outhouse pit" (where I dump our toilet buckets until the house  is done).

No, I don't know what the big snake was thinking--either trying to get away from me or trying a sneak attack.  If the first, it miscalculated the width of the pit.  If the second, my spiritual protection redirected its flight and saved my life (this snake is much more deadly than most rattlesnakes).

Just another quiet day for the retired cowboy "down on the border". big_smile

B.C., one thing about the PBR:  When I was riding, there WASN'T any PBR.  In fact, there was just the RCA before it became  the PRCA.  But at least I don't go back to the original Turtle Association....
