Is there a risk of being booted off Hubpages if I'm not here to make money with advertising?
It might seem like a silly question, but reading through the HubPages' "code of conduct", so to speak, had me wondering.

No not at all. As long as the topics you choose to write on fit in with with HP policy: http://hubpages.com/faq/#what_is_allowed
you can write what you want to write. There are settings in edit mode to remove ads from your hubs as well.
People come to HubPages for a variety of reasons, not just to make money. Everyone who follows the rules is welcome!

I was getting good, so clearly there was a problem.I also noticed that there are still ads on my hubs but that I'm no longer the one getting paid for people clicking on them. So someone else must still be getting paid...
