when it comes to this sort of thing im a bone head. i noticed that you can generate cash by being affiliated with amazon. do i do this only once per hub i post or once and then im covered for every hub i post?
You have to sign up to be an Amazon affiliate first, then when you get your Amazon id put it in the Hubpages Affiliate links page. Then you can add Amazon capsules to which ever hubs you chooose - it won't be done automatically for you.
i have 2 ids now this is why its confusing me because i have been thinking every hub you post you need a seperate idis this the case?
No. IDs like Amazon, eBay, Adsense, etc. ONLY go into the Affiliate Settings section of Hubpages for your account and you only need one ID for each of them for everything you do here at Hubpages.
Adsense ads are placed automatically onto your hubs, but to sell Amazon or eBay products, you would need to insert an Amazon or eBay capsule into the hub where you want it.
No, you don't need separate ID's . You may be thinking HubPages is like a blog - it isn't. Think of Hubpages as a magazine, and each Hub you create is like an article in that magazine.
You set up your ID, join Amazon (and eBay if you want) then paste your affiliate ID's into the "Affiliate" section of "My Account". From then on, every Hub you write will automatically pick up on your affiliate information (assuming you include an Amazon capsule).
so i have got this right....
i post 1 hub 1 min with the amazon id i use then i post another about a hour later using the same amazon id?
Sort of. In Hubpages, go to "My Account", "Affiliate Settings" and then put your Amazon ID into the Amazon ID box. It's kind of like that rotisserie on the infomercials -- set it and forget it. You never have to worry about your Amazon ID again -- or enter it anywhere.
When you write a hub and go to put in an Amazon capsule, all you need to worry about is telling it which products to put there. You don't need your ID for anything. Same for Adsense. Same for eBay.
hi Marc... one thing i noticed is that using keywords in your Amazon capsules seems to be a better option that actually inserting individual Amazon links...i am new also, so i can't be of much more help than that except to say what DOESN'T work for me. good luck~
Marc - Cosette has good advice. Just want to clarify.
When you insert an Amazon capsule, it will ask if you want specific products or a range of products based on keywords.
So you can choose to go to Amazon and find a specific product and have that displayed (eg, Pampers Diapers 12-pack newborn size) or you can put in a keyword ("diaper") and have Amazon choose which products are displayed.
OK, I think I have it as well...I (finally) have my ID's on all except ebay! man that one is hard...I got stuck on making a plain text with the unique identifer...then I figured that one out but now where do I find the base directory to upload my unique identifier on hubpges and ehow and xomba??
now I see why one reply said" and ebay if you want to"
also since I have finally an amazon ID can I go back and edit my hubs and put in the key words in the capsules?
Plain text? Unique identifer? What are you talking about?
All you need to do is paste your affiliate ID into the "Affiliate Settings" section in "My Account". If you have your own website, eBay does have a line of code you're supposed to paste into the header to identify it - but you can't do that on sites like HubPages.
Yes, you can go back and edit your Hubs any time - in fact I recommend doing it often, as you learn more about how to lay out Hubs to best advantage.
Great advice from a very experienced and clever hubber.
Sorry about the long quote but in this case its necessary.
"If you have your own website, eBay does have a line of code you're supposed to paste into the header to identify it - but you can't do that on sites like HubPages."
You MUST do this, if a site doesnt allow this than you are likely to not see any payments from ePn.
I dont know the details of of ehow or xomba, but Hubpages was able to continue with ePn after the recent TOS changes, hubbers with pre-existing ePn accounts (pre August 1st) are grandfathered in, but Hubpage users with new ePn accounts need to insert and link the unique identifier that ebay provides
hubs as implemented a way for this to be done (This info should really be stickied!)

best practice on amazon capsules
yes, its easier to just paste a keyword in, but your sales will be much better if you select items and insert their amazon ids into the capsule rather than depending on the search
more work but more money
I kind of felt you thought that only one amazon capsule per hub? just in case, no, you can insert as many capsules as you like
Thanks so much Sunforged, I had completely missed that post so I had no idea verification was necessary.
thank you Marisa and Sunforged You guys totally rock! You answeed my questions so easily I thank you!!

Authoring Hubs is about sharing and spreading ideas. Most of what we do is word-based, and a capsule to show off related Zazzle stuff would be an eye-catching way to allow readers interested in those ideas to buy products which celebrate them, such as relevant designs, graphics, statements,...

If one is left behind in technoogical race, he is always at a loss. It always hurts me that there is no provision for pasting a HTML code at hubpages. There may be a policy of HP for not including this element. All the hubbers loose greatly on this account. Although I am sure some of...
