Why are people keen to get followers here?
Is there a financial payoff in it? Or just about voting up those who's writing you like?
Because for many it is seen as a measure of success. Lots of followers means viewers of your profile will think you are doing well - why else would so many people be following this user? Financially it does not matter because money is earned from search engine traffic mostly and not from fellow Hubbers.
You need some feedback on how you are performing especially from peers
To get many followers is not related to earnings on the hubpages It is just a criteria to assess how much your profile is exposed and popular among other hubbers
I think it provides some assurance to one's self that one is doing something right.
If no one is following you then I would think it's time to examine just what the heck one is doing and fix it.
Or ,as they say, "if you always do what you've always done you'll always get what you always got".

In my years on this site I have seen so many people randomly follow me in hopes that I follow them back. And then as soon as I do, if the topics they write on interest me, they delete me from the hubbers they're...
