Log in to your adsense account, click on the Adsense Setup tab and click on Competitive Ad Filter.

Remember your competitive ad filter will only be in effect during the 60% timespan when your affiliate code is on your Hubs.  During HubPages 40% share of the time, your filtering preferences will not be in effect, so you might still see ads you don't care for during those times.

I see that ads come in that I would never want, how can we control the ads in our hub better... I thought some folks actually get their own ads placed on the hubpage... that is one of my next adventures. any references would be greatly appreciated. thx
