Do you think an attractive profile picture would help boost your popularity on HubPages?
It's only one factor but it's human nature to notice and respond or be drawn more readily (initially anyway) to what we find attractive. I have no doubt that some people check other's profile because they find their avatars attractive - they may then explore their hubs etc (when otherwise they may not have even checked their profile) and may end up following them for more legitimate reasons. I think less would follow for just attractiveness but i've no doubt some % would. People (based on no other info) tend to be less critical of people they view as attractive.
I once saw a program where a mock trial was aired on tv but what people didn't know was that a different actor was broadcast as the defendent in different parts of the country.Half the population were shown a defendent that was sterotypically attractive and the other half an individual that was on the other end of the attractivness scale (so to speak).People then had to televote their verdict (Guilty/Not Guilty) & despite everything else being equal (evidence, presentation etc.) vastly more voters who were shown the 'less attractive defendent' returned votes of guilty - there was definately a bias.It can't but be an avantage (minor one anyway) initially but would not be sufficient to sustain genuine popularity.
Look at my profile picture. Does it make you want to read my hubs?
No. For me it is the greatest article on the earth that I have written with my total of 3 hubs that now have a total of ever total page views of 3054 and 336 monthly views with an average of 1018 views per hubs for 3 hubs from 100% referring sites traffic and 0% search engines, 0% direct traffic. How are your 10's, 100's, 1000's hubs average views per hub and I have done this in 12 months. I am not on here to be popular but to bring humanity the greatest article on the earth standing side by side with the Holy Bible of which I have done on June 3, 2010 A.D. and had to wait 2 months of 0 traffic to it before the referring sites found it on August 2010 A.D. and have been promoting it around the world in 8 countries and 11 cities with 15 visits from Brazil that just visited it 2 times on June 16, 2011 A.D.
@Rob, you're spot on about how it's human nature to act this way. My friend's baby only tends to focus on things that entertains him, much like a toy or candy. I guess it's also one of the main reasons why some celebs receive more publicity than others.
@dtn2885 When i see your picture, it makes me want to find out what your background is like. Which is good because curiosity leads to the possibility of looking through your hubs.

I know a lot of people will say that this isn't necessary but wouldn't it help reduce spammers. Admit it, most of the people on HP who spam are without a bio and avatar. I know there are some sock pockets that go through the extra trouble to create real-looking accounts but I am sure that after a...
