Why do unpublished hubs that "only you can see" sometimes show page views? How can that be?

Hi Imogen French. Every time you go to that Hub (or any Hub whether it is published or not) it counts toward your traffic. Next time you write a new Hub, before you publish it, notice that it already has traffic. Hope this answers your question!

So...JS...does that mean the bulk of my hits are of my own making?  Aww...snap...I appear to be my biggest fan...

J.S. is correct in his answer. What I do is look at traffic sources under the "total" tab in my stats for each hub and there I can see how many times traffic came from my subdomain: ktrapp.hubpages
