I want to write an in depth hub about a subject that I have already touched on lightly in my blog.

What are the guidelines for duplicate content? Have you ever received a flag for one?

Duplicate content is detected by search engines, it is an automated process. If a substantial amount of text is quoted or duplicated, chances are that the hub will be marked duplicate. It is better to rewrite. Quotes or duplication of a few lines of text should not represent a problem.

They detect duplication with machines.  It's purely about words and the order they come in.  The machines don't understand what the content or words mean.  Just write your piece and don't use exactly the same words in the same order, which should be easy if you're not copy and pasting!
