If I simply enjoy writing hubs but don't understand manipulation of viewership, can I earn money?
If I simply enjoy writing hubs, but don't have an understanding of how to manipulate viewership through various modes, ie. backlinking, blogging, getting "juice" or other lingo I'm fuzzy on, can I earn anything? Or should I concentrate on educating myself for the next few weeks and see if I can figure out how to do it all before I write anymore?
Viewership is the way in which a hubber earns money. I have not yet signed up to make money on my hubs, but I plan to soon. I am trying to learn more about backlinking, which seems to greatly help views. Backlinking is where you post a link to your hub on other sites so that it can more easily reach a larger audiance. The other lingo you mentioned, I'm still educating myself on.
I think writing hubs is more important than any of that other stuff, if you have ideas, don't wait to start writing hubs. If you can learn a little about keywords that can help you with your titles, which is important. As for the rest of it, read up in between writing, learn as you go, and don't take anyone's opinion as gospel. And yes, it is possible to start earning money without all that other stuff. But to do it you need to write more hubs.
Although HubPages isn't a blogging site, many bloggers have made money simply because they developed a following. I'm sure they learned along the way how to maximize traffic, etc. I write for the love of writing, and as with others, I'm learning about monetization, too. Just write what you enjoy writing, and then watch what others do regarding the revenue - if you're inclined to do those things, go for it!
