    What is duplicate content?

I have heard  a lot of talk about duplicate content, but I am not very sure yet what it is. If I published stuff on my blog e.g. on MySpace  and transfer it to a hub here does that make it duplicate? Or is it stuff from sites like Odesk, Helium to Hubpages which make it duplicate. Please explain.

Duplicate is content (an article) that has appeared on another site. HubPages, partly in response to Google's algorythms, looks for articles that are published only on HubPages and no where else, even if you are the author and even if you publish it first on HubPages. Google frowns and can actually penalize a site if one article appears on more than one site.

As LuisEGonzalez said, duplicate content is content that was published in another site, even if you wrote it and has its copyright. Here is the Learning Center hub on the topic - http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Mode … e-Content.
However, HubPages allow authors to move their content from another site to HubPages under certain conditions. Please read this Learning Center hub to know more - http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/How- … e-Content.

As others have said its content that is also on other sites which is a violation of hub pages terms. A lot of places are the same, i guess everybody wants unique content smile
