Can article promoting hurt how the article is viewed by Google?
I have seen numerous opinions and suggestions recommending that we promote our hubs. One of the sites mentioned actually instructs you to copy your article word for word into their template. Will this method make Google think the article is not original content?
Can someone offer some insight on this?
Copying your article word for word did work, once upon a time. It doesn't today. If someone is giving you that advice, I suggest you treat ALL their advice with suspicion because they're woefully out of date!
Writing articles on other revenue sharing sites, or writing guest posts on other blogs, is a great way to promote your work. Links in articles or blog posts are far more valuable than links on directories or on links pages.

Did you wait until you had plenty of hubs and the ad accounts activated before you started promoting your hubs or did you start promoting right away?
