Should I change over to the new Profile design? Why or Why not?

So I was looking at the recently published hubs of  topics I follow and saw this (see attached image)  change. It says that the change over is permanent once accepted. For those currently using it? What are some of the advantages? What can I do that I can't do with the "old profile design"?

Also for those following me, I'm interested in knowing if you are going to the new profile.

    Any input would be helpful.

Every profile will automatically switch over to the new one eventually, so there's really no reason to wait to change.

You can add a background, social networks and you can add featured hubs(The hub you would like to be featured)  Also you can see if you are or are not following people who are following you.

I love the new profile! I'd been having some problems with the old one, not being able to click on the links and so forth so I'm glad they changed it!

I changed over, and I love the new look.  My only problem is trying to make up my mind how I want the background to look.  I like the way that someone can sort through your hubs easily, and think in general the design is very slick.

Eventually you will be forced into the new profile. At some point, there has to be consistency throughout the site.

Personally, I don't like the new profile page.  I find it less organized and more confusing to navigate than the old one.  I won't be happy when they change it over, and plan to keep mine "as is" until that happens, which I hope it never does!

I have to say that I am glad you posed this question because I was not even aware that we could make the change to the new profile.  Reading through the comments I did take the steps to change mine, and I have to say that I really like it.  I think the way the Hubs are now presented is much more user friendly and certainly easier to quickly navigate through.  It also more closely mimics that certain standard that I believe we have become accustomed to when it comes to having an online presence.  I think the new profile change only stands to enhance that standard.

Here are some difference that I noticed.  When you change over to the new profile you will be given the opportunity to pick six hubs that you want showcase as featured Hubs.  However, you will lose the feature that used to list your hub as hot/best/latest.  I don't notice that feature in the new profile.  Another problem with the new profile is that it breaks the links that you have in your bio--the links that were embedded in anchor text.  It also won't create hyperlinks out of the URLs that you have in your bio.  I notice this when I tried to create a link so that people could vote for me on HubNuggets.  However, they added a social networking section where you could link your HubPages profile to a bunch of social networks.  The only drawback is you don't have as much freedom when choosing where you want to link to.  I hope this helps.

Thanks for answering this question -which I too have been wondering- with actual details. Real bummer about the links. Wish we could opt out.

I switched over to the new Profile Design. You gain some things, you lose some things. Thanks to everyone here who posted a response. Your input helped me quite a bit.

Anyone interested in more details should check out the Hub I recently posted. I go over what changes I found, items that got moved, or no longer seem to be accessible from the the new layout.

I just changed my profile to the new design yesterday. I looked at a few other profiles which had the new design first, to get an idea of the new layout. The change was pretty painless and I really like how you can showcase up to 6 of your hubs in a rotating fashion. This is one of the nicest graphical changes. I also like how hubs are arranged below the showcased hubs. Since there is a portion of the text for the hub showing, this may make it easier for folks to pick and choose which hubs they may like to read, and this may boost interest in our hubs and increase traffic. The only thing I wasn't able to setup right away was the background image. For now, I used one of the choices available which is a cool looking tea cup/coffee cup. I tried a background with flowers and scenery but it wasn't the right size, so it ended up being tiled which didn't look good, so I'll have to work on that.

In conclusion I would say it's a nicer overlook, enhanced look. :-)

I really like the featured hub of the layout as well. I also recently noticed that if you want to feature a hub. It seems to require having at least 1 image in the hub.
