Just how important is a screen name?

I started this hub a couple of years ago and then stopped. Now I'm back and I'm doing it more for fun now with an obvious interest in making a couple of dollars if I can. Its not every day a hobby pays back, but there is the name Coconut Soap that I can not change. Just how important is the name. After all people are looking at my titles first....right?

I think it is very important.  Your screen name helps others define who you are.  I believe it also says something about how you feel about yourself.  Having said that, I opted to use my real nickname and the first initial of my last name to avoid being judged - for better or worse - by my screen name.

Thats what I was afraid I was going to hear. I wonder if I could delete my stories on this account and transfer them to a new account? Thanks for responding to my question.

Actually, I see nothing wrong with your screen name as it stands.  I am obsessive over environmental issues; and, this name says (to me), "Here is someone interested in environmental issues."  In my mind, this is a good thing.

A good screename is important, as long as it's not obscene. I chose to use the first initial and last name in one word because I felt it's professional. I feel that I'm more likely to earn a bit higher than the quirky names. (Actually, Coconut Soap is good.)

If you're doing it for fun, it's not so important.  If you're doing it for money - very.  If you're trying to establish yourself as a writer with some authority, you need a consistent online presence and for that you need a real name, or at least one that sounds real.
