Should I give my Social Security Number?

I was looking at the HubPages earing page and you have to fill out at W9 for the earnings which makes sense. I am just a little freaked out to put my Social on the Internet, especially to a sharing site like this. I just wanted to know what I should do.

They have had mine for years without a problem. If you want to get paid you will have to provide it. HP is a legitimate website so no worries on that side.

And you have never had a problem or any shady occurrences concerning your Social?

No and I have been getting paid for a couple years at least. I'm actually expecting pay today I think. This is a good legitimate website. Nothing to worry about here.

Any free-lance job or any job period will require you to provide a social security number for a W-9 or W-2.
You probably wouldn't want to fill out the form on a public Wi-Fi at the library or McDonalds though. It's best to do that kind of thing through your own internet provider at home.
Oddly enough back when I was in college they use to post our grades in the hallway outside of the classrooms by social security number on green bar paper instead of using our names for privacy reasons.
I can also remember when military personnel use to include their social security number as part of their return address on envelopes!
