Is what we post on the forums public?

I often wonder whether what we post on the forums is available for the public to see, or whether it is just for us.  Anybody?

Forums are public. You can confirm this by logging out of your account and viewing a forum thread URL.

AS Matthew said, all of our Hubs can get a "hit" if someone uses the right search words that match what we used in the Hubs.
The ideal situation, of course, is that Google likes our works and keywords so much that they move our Hubs to the TOP of the search results.

Google ranking quality results at the top of a search list? Pigs will probably fly before that happens! I wonder is there any facility for individuals to lobby Google to rank their pages higher?

The forums on HubPages have never been private, they have always been viewable to anyone.  The content of the forums is scanned and cataloged by Google's search engine just like the Hubs are.

I don't understand why it is set up this way since there is a lot of personal info on those forums that could lead to identity theft, etc and/or impact our creds as writers.
