I recently gave a presentation at my college on the Original Night Stalker, a criminal responsible for about 50 rapes and 12 murders in the 70s and 80s. Up until know, no one has been able to identify him or even knew if he remains alive.

Just this past Tuesday, DNA evidence seems to have finally apprehended him, still living near the California areas he terrorized beginning more than 40 years ago. Joseph James DeAngelo Jr.

Almost wrote an article about the stalker, but decided it might be risky considering its adult nature. Either way, I'm just glad he finally seems to have been caught. More information linked below.

I watched a documentary about him.  He was often referred to as the Golden State Killer.  I have some real questions about it.  How did he evade DNA discovery years ago?  He was a police officer.  Glad they caught him.  I just don't know why it didn't happen earlier.  All around, a fascinating and horrifying story.

Back in the 70's and 80s, forensic technology was more limited, and he was pretty careful in most of his attacks, so there weren't many samples collected. Still, you raise a good question, and I'd love to hear where this new sample came from, or maybe it was just an older sample that finally hit a match.

Yep, Golden State Killer, Diamond Knot Killer, East Area Rapist--plenty of creepy monikers for him. Another messed up thing he would do is call and taunt his victims weeks or even years after he raped them (one of the victims recorded a call, which can be found on YouTube).

Whoa, what a menace to society.

As the majority of my family resides in California, myself included, glad he’s been brought to justice.

Its been on our Australian news today.
The message for me besides the obvious is that no one is exempt from being scrutinized. Just because you have a job that is about "trust and safety" in society doesn't mean you follow those rules.

I watched a few videos about this on YouTube. I had a personal interest in the story because my former spouse had been falsely suspected of killing his casual girlfriend. The young woman had been stabbed to death, which, to me, sounded like a serial killer. The incident occurred during the years of TGSK's reign.
