Does anyone know of some good free antivirus software.  I know people are going to say just pay for it from Webroot or Norton but I'm 150% broke and need something today as my computer was just infected.  I've heard of TotalAV and PC Protect but thought I tried a shout out to see if anyone knows of anything that will actually do the trick.  I've used malwarebites but that only gets at malware and I think doesn't play nicely with some other software.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  Does a google chrome book need to download extra security?  Also My editor gave me a Lenovo Idea Pad (extreeeeeeeeeeemely slow).  It says it has micrsoft defender on it but then there was this ear shattering alarm and something popped up saying my computer was all infected and had to shut down and I needed to call this microsoft number to have them walk me through fixing it.  It seemed like a scam expecially since they said first I'd need to "fix" problems with my facebook account, credit card information (which I don't keep online anywhere) and my phone number.  I finally managed to get that window closed without it opening and scaring the entire building again.  It had microsoft listed on it 4 times but no official logo or anything.  Still looked pretty scary.  Is there any chance that was legit?  As I read this back I realize how stupid it sounds and that I'm just gullible.  At least I didn't act on it.

Yes, it's a scam. Never, ever phone any number that pops up like that. I've actually had phone calls from people saying they were Microsoft monitoring my online activity and telling me I had a virus. I just told them I didn't have a computer and they rang off.

Malwarebytes might be able to take care of that.

I've got basic AVG which is free and so far all is well. Seems to be doing the trick.
