Hi everyone
A few months ago I joined hubpages with the desire to share my writing with others as well as to be able to make a passive income from my writing. And it's definitely not what I was expecting. My goal was to be able to use my income from my articles to partially fund my travels, but the few cents I make per month don't help much.
What are some tips on how I can make my articles more reader friendly and appealing? Although making some money would be nice, I'm more interested in having high quality articles so that I can improve my writing over time.
I do not think recipe hubs garner that much traffic. (I had hubs on acarajé and a few other foods from my region but ended up deleting them.) Since you are paid on the amount of impressions, you need a lot of traffic every day. The only way you are going to make an adequate income from recipes is if you have many hundreds. Most writers here at HP do not make much the first year or two, and for those people that do not publish much or in those areas that do not have much traffic they will never make much.
Writing to be more appealing is different. I just read your recipe about pasteis. The title is good, and will get some traffic from other countries where a person might be interested in making a Brazilian dish. In the middle of the hub, however, you explain that they way to make these is to buy pastel skins, which are commonly available here. They are not commonly available in other places.
If I was a reader I would be out of there in a minute as soon as I had to buy those shells. Make your articles useful to everyone, no matter where they are. If in the US, how about using a package of egg roll skins? (They are available even at Walmart.) What about Europeans? There are probably pastry skins available for French pastries (not sure what) and to help the reader you should suggest them. (Maybe link to another Delishably article about making pastry dough?)
Also, make the reader really interested in going to the work and making this recipe. Tell them how pasteis are the best food ever, how great they taste when made for breakfast, why they are better than a cold pop-tart, etc.

I am really not liking the front page of Hubpages these days. When I first click in to HP, I see a list of the five top questions and articles. It usually something about politics or beliefs. First of all, is that what the public sees when arriving to HP? Right now it is, "Trump Supporters:...

I know I don't. I check my account daily and don't see anything (or anything to be encouraged about). Is there something I'm not doing right? Could someone help out, please.

There are a lot of articles on how to write articles to get good returns on HP. But, I doubt the reliability of many of them. If you have made $500 in any given month on Hubpages, please drop your HP handles and link your most poplar article/s. I'd love to read, follow and understand. Thanks
