What is this "unknown region" in Google analytics statistics?

I was looking at my page views for the day and it was 225 whereas I used to receive only 150 views per day. So, I clicked the audience button to know about the audience. There was an unknown audience in it that had 120 views in a day. I am afraid what is this unknown figure.

I checked the figures for the week and came to see the same figure ( overall 132) under unknown audience category. I never came across such unknown audience figure during last weeks or even months and years. So, this is a new thing for me.

    Can anybody solve this suspense?

My guess is they are using some form of an anonymizing program that hides their location. They might be some bots or one of your competitors is analyzing your website/pages through some tools.

This made me curious so I've checked my analytics audience, nothing with 'unknown region' in the last 3 months, there are a few sessions that come up as (not set).

Let us know if you get to the bottom of this. But, if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much.

I will definitely let you know when I get an answer to it.

But, I am worried presently whether there is any security risk with these unknown visitors.

Under which report category in the left side panel do you see this?
It could be referral spam. If it is, it usually shows up as a spike of traffic from the same city and view duration is zero.

I was looking at my blog statistics under audience view.

But, now I cross-checked it from my Adsense reports. And, there was only one view mentioned as from the unknown region. The other views must have got included either in India or the US figures (because the total is tallying for the week.

So, I hope there is no problem.
