Hi, hubbers! What is better from your experience for decent earnings here? Making a profile that is dedicated solely to some niche or writing different engaging high-quality hubs?

You need a niche you can exploit non stop in a thousand different ways, and you need to be able to put products from amazon.com for sale on your pages.

I'm not even a good writer, but my income here has gone up dramatically since I decided to go full niche. Oh, I'll get bored with it eventually, and write about other things again, but I'm extremely poor, and do not wish to be.

In terms of search engine traffic - and that's what all of us aim for, you get a lot more exposure by being niche specific.

So just like Todd Shaw pointed out earlier, try to concentrate your efforts on a specific subject, a topic in which you can include/write about Amazon products.

There's the Amazon commission percentage you should take into consideration as well, some products pay a higher commission than others.

Plus, if you write about books, for example, the purchase price is low - therefore your commission isn't going to be great. But if you talk about, let's say, fitness equipment, you're talking about $100+ products - all the way to a few thousand.

The thing about HubPages is that you don't have to be niche to succeed. All you need is a nose for good topics. Your readers come to your individual article via search engines. They rarely go to your profile because that article has given them the information they are looking for.

Having a niche topic is beneficial though because it helps you focus. As you write one article you'll get ideas for the next and so on. Plus, readers will see one or two of your other articles in 'Related Articles'. However, being hung up on a niche can mean you might miss other opportunities. My top two traffic hubs for years were totally different topics; one about reading tarot and the other about spy bugs.

So my advice is to write about what you want and the niches will follow.

Regarding Amazon products... well, to be frank, if you try to write about saturated topics like fitness equipment, you will be in competition with more authoritative sites. You have to have spot on knowledge of any product you review. And remember that a link to a book may lead to other sales; there's no restriction on what they buy. My best Amazon link is a text link to a sub $20 item. It sells loads, over $100 per month from that one link. Highest ever commission on a sale was about $60 for one item; some scientific equipment. I have no scientific hubs.

What raggededge said...plus...if you write within a niche you can link your articles within your hubs, which can bring more traffic...as long as those links are pertinent to your topic in a given hub.

This is great advice. Pick a niche for focus. But often you may have something to say about something else. This gives birth to mini-niches, or just good articles if you share what you know and express it well.

Thank you all for your opinions, I appreciate it! I think the most important for writers is to avoid burnout. When you're inspired by what you are writing about you can create the best engaging articles for the readers!
