    Dear New Fan.

Thank you for recently following me and bringing my followers total up to 1700. I think the number 1700 looks a lot better than 1699 on my followers list and I have been hoping that this event would happen soon.

Now you might think that 1700 followers is a big deal. Well, it is and it isn’t.

I have been here more than 10 years, and possibly 3/4 of the names on my followers list are no longer active on HubPages. Some have moved on to another dimension either more glorious or more ignominious than the one we still occupy.
A good number, perhaps nearly 100, have added me to their list in hopes of getting a follow. Others have just lost interest or found something else to do.  Of those 250 or so other followers, some do read my articles a few even comment which is much appreciated.  In any case, I know I get less than 1700 views a day.

I didn’t really care if number 1700 was from a person who was actually interested in following my writing, or one of those who suddenly takes a notion to add a whole bunch of writers to the list of people he follows in the hope that they may return the favor.  I don’t often do that, though I usually do look at the profile and the list of articles of my new follower.

According to your activity list, my name was in a group of more than 40 that you suddenly have decided to follow, so I suspect that you have not really read articles from all of us, and probably do not intend to, that’s OK too.  Or perhaps you really have decided that it might be a good idea to interact with some of the active people on the site, which is a good thing.

Probably you have not been told that this is really not a good practice as it makes you look a little insincere.

In addition, the suggestions for improving your scores  in the terms of service states, “ Avoid following large numbers articles all at once,” and , “You should only follow people you have a genuine interest in keeping up with.”

I follow less than 400 people, and I’ll admit that I do not comment on, or even read all of their articles, though  I added each with good intentions. I do try to take a look when I get an eMail notice.

Again, thanks for the follow. It is one I will remember.

Congratulations on another milestone. I used to pay a lot of attention to following and getting followed when I first started here. Now I don't notice it much. But, you made me look. My list of followers is not nearly as impressive as yours, but it's been growing, even though it has been ages since I followed anyone.
