I need some help figuring this out.  I have a recipe first posted about a year an a half ago.  It is my original recipe with my original title.  There was no notice it was duplicate content when published and has never comeup as duplicate content before now.  I just recieved a message that someonemight have copies the article which the did - word for word.  However they have also used it to stuff in a bunch of unrelated keywords about something like grey goose Canada.  The probhlem is that although it is clearly new, it is somehow dated back to 203.  I know you can change the date of blog posts forward in time - can you date them back in time as well?  I just want to k now what might happen if I file a DMCA and it looks like theirs was posted years before mine.  Is there something embedded somewhere else that provides the accurate date of a post. Thanks.

Hello, Natalie, I am sorry that bad persons are profiting from your sweat and hard work. I think you better take this up with HubPages if you published the article first on their site. But I have a question to ask. Is the copyright in your name? It this is left out, it can be regarded as a free stuff online. Thank you, and once again, sorry.

It is obvious from the few items you have posted recently that you are new here and have not taken the time to read the information in the learning center.  FYI, we own our work, not HP...therefore, they cannot file DMCA reports for us.  They do however keep records that can be accessed in the event a writer needs some help with dates, etc.  However, all of us put (or should put) a copyright notice at the end of each article...a space for doing so is automatically provided.  So, while the bit of advice you gave isn't bad, it is basically useless to post...and by the way, the proper name for "free stuff" is Public Domain.  if you plan to write here, you need to know the proper way to refer to things.

It needs to be noted as well that the Digital Millenium Copyright Act provides for automatic copyright whether a notice is included in the hub or not.

Countries that recognize the act will respect your copyright whether you put the copyright symbol in or not.  Those that do not recognize it (notably China and Russia but there are more) won't care either way.

Hello, TIMETRAVELLER2, thanks for your comments.  I am at most 3-years on HubPages. Like all writers, I am still learning the ropes. Is there anything wrong with that? I think not. I made mistakes right at the very early stage. For example, I do not realize I should post a comment or two on my articles when others are commenting and commending me for a job well done. That's for three good years!

This year, I began to befriend the learning center. I have learned many things so far. I am therefore writing successful hubs that have been featured. All my hubs past 3-years are not featured pieces.

Now, the word I used "free stuff" I learned while I was a newbie online before I land on Hubpage's site. Public Domain, I only learn from HubPages as a free photo download site. It is when you do not put a copyright notice on your work that I think learned it becomes a free stuff. People can copy it and modify same and the authored the work. So I have understood.

Thank you. You are always welcomed. And, have a nice day.

Actually this is not correct. Everything published as an original piece of work is copyright, whether it is displayed or not. Just because there is no copyright notice doesn't mean it's free for the taking.

However, a content producer can choose to publish under a Creative Commons or Public Domain license, The first gives a limited use (depending on the kind of license), the second is completely free of restrictions.

I would first check https://www.whois.net/ to see the date the website was first created, if the blog date is older than the website creation date, that's one good way to nab the culprits in your DMCA complaint.

But, no there is no piece of code that says when the article was truly published and yes you can backdate articles.

However, all of us can prove when our hubs were written because the stat dates show the date of publication AND we have the option of putting copyright notices on the bottom of each hub, which we should do.  Furthermore, if any phrases or images at all are copied, even if there is other wordage, you can file a DMCA.  Google likely can find the recorded publication dates in their data banks if necessary.

I would submit the DMCA because Google will check into everything. I am sure you have a place to add further information.

It appears they are starting to copy all my content.  There's another two sites using my articles stuffed full of that Goose UK keyword.  they don't have an email (I'll search for it) but they have a contact us link which doesn't work.  What a pain in the neck.
