I think that it would make for a pretty interesting discussion to talk about strangers that we once met that we may never see again but will forever be etched into our memories.
I think for me the one stranger that I will always remember is this guy named Vincent that I met through a friend at work and he was telling me about his mother and how she overcame cancer multiple times and the way he talked about his mom and how he described his love for life simply because he still had his mom was beautiful and it will forever live with me.
I met actor Tom Selleck at William F. Buckley Jr's birthday party in Manhattan. We made small talk and then I said, "Tom, I did not know you were conservative." He looked around the room and replied, "Conservative? They are far to the left for me."
I technically never met this person, nor do I even remember what he looks like, but it was an incident when I was in 8th grade that I will forever remember. I don't know why - maybe it was a missed connection? LOL!
To make a long story short, I was bullied a lot in middle school. I was in the school band, and I played saxophone. It must have been a Friday and I was taking my sax home for the weekend to practice. I was tiny, then, and lugging the instrument in the case around was obnoxious and I hated doing it. Though, it came in hand with the end of the day crowd, and I would hold it in front of me to use it to clear a path for myself instead of getting pushed around.
That didn't necessarily stop that from happening, however. And on this particular day, something happened to cause me to lose my balance (whether I was pushed, bumped into, whatever, those details are now foggy). Regardless, I fell backwards. But someone from behind caught me, right under my arms, and practically launched me - instrument and all - back to my feet.
I remember turning around to see who it was and to thank them. And I think I caught a glimpse of this person, whoever it was, who's image is now long gone in my memory. I believe our gazes met for a moment, and then the crowd grew between us and he was gone, and I hurried off to catch my bus before I missed it.
It's been 15 years since then. I still wonder about that person, who he was, what he's up to. Guess I'll never know!
When I was about 12 years old, my two brothers, 11 and 9, and I were at the beach. It was right behind the apartment we were living in, and we went there every day. On this particular day, the waves were really big, and they were breaking far out from the shore.
We used to swim out to a buoy sometimes. My brothers did it more than I did, I didn't like being in such deep water and not knowing what might be swimming underneath me. On this day, they swam out and stayed at the buoy for awhile, but when they tried to swim in, they couldn't do it. I could see them drifting to the side, but not making any progress toward the shore.
I went to the lifeguard, but he was talking to some older girls, and would not listen to me when I tried to tell him that my brothers were in trouble. A bystander heard what I was saying and asked me about it. I pointed my brothers out to him, and he took his big inner-tube out and rescued them.
The beach was full of people that day, but nobody seemed to notice the drama that was going on. My exhausted brothers and I thanked the man, but we never got his name. He just went on his way, but if it were not for him I think my brothers would have died that day.

If you were behind a stranger and there was a big tick crawling up their back, would you tell them?Would you pick it off? Sling it off them and onto someone else? Ignore it and be grossed out? Wonder later if they got lymes disease or Rocky Mountain tick fever!

If you had a problem would you talk to a stranger about it? If you felt like no one listened to you and no one cared. You were also feeling really bad about something would you feel comfortable talking to a stranger knowing that you would probably never see them again unless you wanted too?
