Bogus hyperlinks in articles

I found a few hyperlinks in an article and I never placed them there. I broke all of them without opening them b/c I was afraid of viruses. However, it is frightening to me that these hyperlinks were somehow placed in my article by another party.

Has anybody else had this problem?

I notice that all of your articles are on niche sites. Are you sure these links haven't been added as part of the HubPro editing? If you see a green icon next to your hub, you can click on it to view the editing history.
I have had a few links inserted by editors, when they were used as a research source.
It's highly unlikely that any dubious links would pass QAP. Nonetheless, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to change your password, if this is your concern.
      Hope this helps.

Thanks for your feedback, MM. No, these were not part of HubPro editing--I checked. They appear to be spammy links. There must be a bug or I need to figure out how to prevent this from happening. In the meantime, every time I try to break the links, they reappear. It's very frustrating.

Madeleine, I have a few questions.

    1. Did you look at the last change date to see if it was updated when the links appeared?

    2. What do you mean by “break the links”. You either remove them or you don’t. I have no idea what you are doing based on your terminology.

    3. Have you actually removed those links? And are you saying they reappear? If so, when?  Immediately? Or sometime later.

      Thanks, Glenn.

      1. For one article, today's change date did appear yet the links were still there even after I removed them and was sure to SAVE this change. For another article, today's change date did not appear and the links were still there.

      2. I meant that I removed the links.

      3. The links go away right after I remove them in edit mode. Yet after I click on SAVE, they reappear.

Your answer to  number 3 suggests that it's not a hacker. That's good news. It seems more certain that your SAVE did not work.

Just to be sure, let explain what you probably already know, but I just need to rule it out. When you save, you need to do it in two steps. Save the capsule, then also save the hub by clicking the button at the top.

If that doesn't work, I would almost bet that you have something going on with your computer.

Try clearing you cache, make sure you are using the latest version of your browser. Make sure you don't have any browser plugins that might be interfering with saving.

For that matter, try using a different browser.

Let me know if any of that helped.

Which articles are posing problems Madeleine? I quickly browsed through and the only links I saw were to Amazon and the niche sites. There was also one to Eden Garden, but I believe you said you purchase oils or similar from there.
As Glenn and Will have said, clear your cache and cookies, disable any extensions/addons and ensure you have saved your changes for the capsule and article.
You may also want to run a virus and malware scan on your pc, just to be safe.
Hope this helps, but they all appear fine to me.
        Good luck!

Sounds like an unwanted browser extension or adware.

This is a guide to remove one kind of adware:

In the past people who had this problem found it was caused by malware on their computer.  Use a different computer and see if the links are still there.
