I thought I had posted this but cannot find the thread. I would like for everyone to tell me how long it took to get the first fifty dollar payout. Thanks in advance.

If you use this link for the forum, you cam see all the threads in one place:

The problem with the question is that there are so many variables. Number of hubs, quality of writing, if articles are moved to network sites, popularity of topic, number of views, etc. Time is almost irrelevant. One person might reach payout after 3 months, another person might take 3 years.

I think I had around 37 articles, didn't see much happening so wasn't active here and one day after 10 months, a payment appeared. I then joined the fabulous Apprentice program (wish they still ran it) and once that had ended I was getting paid mostly every month, sometimes every other month for a couple of years. Then something clicked and I got into the swing of it properly and haven't missed payout since May 2016.

Thank you. I have been writing since March, over 100 articles. I’ve only made $5.00. I wanted others to share so I could get an average idea of what expect. All my articles have been featured and many places on Network sites but I’m not getting the views I was expecting.

Most of your articles are on Letterpile. Unfortunately, poetry and fiction are notoriously poor earners.

If you want to start earning well you need to write articles that answer a reader's question. Think about the things you do well. Are you an expert in anything? What are the topics your friends turn to you for help?

You need to get these articles onto one of the network sites. And then the pennies should start rolling in. Good luck. It's a steep learning curve, but well worth the effort.

Cheryl, most articles take a while to build up any audience (when someone reads, likes it, backlinks it, saves it to read again, shares to another site, etc) but since you write mostly poetry, think more like 30 or 40 years. Sorry, not trying to be negative about your work, just being realistic. The top rated article you have is probably the one in "Wehavekids" and the Letterpile submissions are most likely not getting any traffic day to day.
I posted a lot of different things when I started here but I noticed that my recipes, culture, and religion hubs were not getting any traffic. I ended up just deleting them.
Everyone has a diferent reason for being here, which is great. If your main reason to be here is to earn a second income, then you need to stop worrying about the creative writing and focus on writing articles that can help people solve problems. If your main reason for being here is to write what you want, like poetry, then you will most likely have to forget about the income. (I did see a writer get the 10million accolade and he writes about poetry, but most of his articles are analyses of famous poems to help students that are studying that material.)
As Bev points out, the time someone else took to make a first payout does not  matter a lot. When I started here I was recovering from a bad accident, had way too much time on my hands, and was publishing every day. It only took me three months to start getting monthly payouts.

Thank you so much. The one article that has 1300 views is about marriage but subsequent hubs on the subject have not performed well. I enjoy sharing home remedies., natural cures and ways money can be saved but so far none of those have caught the eye of the readers. I will however continue. I was just curious about other Huber’s experiences.

You need your best articles to be getting hundreds, and even thousands of views per day. Total views over time mean nothing in this context as earnings are added on a daily basis.

The topics you are writing about are all over the web. There are so many personal blogs that share that kind of information. You have to go more 'niche'. Fewer articles, but make sure they are well researched and better by a mile than any competing titles.

I mix articles and poetry. I just started the poetry recently. Thanks for responding.
