My friend started a gofundme page for me, to help me earn extra money, as I am going through some health issues. I had one before, but only received $25 total of the $1,000 I needed to save my moms house from tax foreclosure a few years ago.

The site makes it look like you can receive a lot of money, and, some of the local success stories compared to my issues are kind of sad. One girl got $500 to get a dress for her senior prom. Another got $5,000.00 to find their dog. I was losing my house and facing homelessness and only got $25. Sad.

The state did eventually take my moms house, and sold it to one of my neighbors who kicked me out, and sold the property to dollar general. And, there is a dollar general store where my house used to be. I am currently living in low income housing in Reed City MI. Which I was very lucky to get into. Instead of being homeless.

Just curious if anyone has had luck with it. So far, I have received more than I did when I was dealing with the house. But, not much more.

    Thoughts?

I know of no one who started a GoFundMe page who actually received a significant amount of money.  I think it only works if you have a large network of relatives, friends and co-workers, who can all share your page.

Can't comment on gofundme but I am not surprised dogs get more attention than humans, no matter how vulnerable. People have been persuaded that humans are untrustworthy and generally undeserving.

Dogs on the other hand are so cute!

Interesting to look at kickstarter. Basically, it is about producing toys for rich kids. A lot of money flows into drones, game dev, luxury watches etc etc.

I keep thinking I should find a way to prey on kickstarter types. They have money but apparently little in the way of lives. Spending money might be the only thing that makes them feel good (if briefly). As long as money is not going to anyone in distress.

I might try targetting kickstarter types with ego boosting, consumer goods, the online equivalent of chocolate ice cream (eat like crazy, feel sick afterwards).

Were we talking about not trusting humans, earlier?

Yes. Getting people to share a webpage takes less then a second. And it seems people don't have the second to spare.
But, they will spread the white cat memes like wildfire.
