On January 1st I published a rather long article on the best hypoallegenic dog breeds for an apartment. I noticed that the article already has decent traffic and when I went to check it on Google I found that it has gained the featured snippet rank.
Is there anything different about this article than those that do not get the snippet?
    1. The intro and the list is at the top of the article, before the photo. The list is long, which may be what they are looking for now based on my latest searches.
I used the "table of contents" function to hyperlink all of the breeds so that the reader would be able to read their chosen section immediately, without scrolling through the article. I did not know if Google was going to accept this but I guess they cannot tell the difference between the link capsules and a regular list in a text capsule.
I am not certain if this is going to be of much help to other writers on HP, but if we can all write to get the featured snippet our traffic is going to go up. (Yes, PDS, I know you do not agree with me on this one.)

It seems as long your article has some sort of mini guide or useful data it can be used as a snippet. I often see snippets using data from a list or specific paragraph. One of my articles is a featured snippet (not on HubPages my own website) and the snippet has a ordered list from my article.

I have not done much different this article compared to my other writing. It seems I just happened to pick the right keyword. I feel like I got lucky.

What's the 'table of contents' function? I had an editor add a list to one of my very long articles and it would be good to hyperlink the list items.

There is not a capsule for it. I followed the steps in this guide to make them. You need to copy and paste some HTML and the guide teaches you how.

There is a good section about how to set it up on lobobrandon´s SEO article.
