Got one of those dreaded red circle copyright notices on the first chapter of my novel published on a niche site (and also published on Amazon as a finished novel.) I sent an email to the "contact us" on the site that posted the poorly-paraphrased chapter as their own. No response, naturally.

I'm at a loss on filing a DMCA with China. Do they even honor DMCAs? I've taken down the rest of my beta reader chapters now as a knee-jerk reaction. What possible use can they have for this stuff on a sales site? I don't see any adverts.

Now I'm leery of posting anything else. (Again) Although this isn't the first time I've had work stolen over the last 10 years and it likely won't be the last.

    This is SO frustrating.

Peg, I had the same thing happen to me with my article on how to maintain your septic tank without using chemicals. This particular "foreign" domain had several and used my article on all of them. I couldn't get to them from Whois, so I contacted Google and had the links taken down. Theraggededge has given you good advice.

Thanks so much. I'll go with the Google angle. Sorry you had difficulty on your article.

I have yet to get results from filing with either a site owner or a server in China.

As Ragged says, your best bet is probably to file with google to have it removed from the search engine.

That's been my experience with the China copy cats, too. Thanks for sharing that with me.

You might be able to find out the hosting company by using a whois search. Sometimes going straight to the webhost produces results. If not, then have it removed from Google search results by filing a request with Google. I'm sure someone here will have the link.

You can take comfort in the fact that poorly paraphrased copies won't take any traffic from your original at all. Just be aware that you can't unpublish and republish it on HP or it might be flagged as duplicate.

Poorly copied articles posted to Youtube do draw off a lot of our traffic, however.

Hoping it doesn't get to YouTube. neutral
