I've been advised that serial articles are forbidden on HP.   Each of my articles can stand alone but the entire topic is better understood when read in order and in concert with the others. Am I allowed to leave a link at the end of the article that connects to the next one without mentioning that it's part of a series? Can I keep links to the previous related articles if I don't mention them as part of a series?

That would only makes sense to me.  It seems like if you merely state "for further reading on this topic, please read ______".  Good luck!

I wrote many series articles on astrology when I came to HP 9 yrs. ago. They did very well at the time and for years, but mostly got stolen. It's OK to leave a link at the bottom, or just in the last line tell the reader there is more information and give them the title of the next article. I still have quite a few that perform like that. It is obvious they are related. I have for instance, Aries Moon Sign Emotions, Taurus Moon Sign emotions. So those don't even need a link, the reader sees there are 12 articles.

I should say serial articles are not eligible for niche sites but not entirely forbidden on HP

I have a series of 16 articles on Exemplore. They are all different titles, but on related topics. I can't  inter-link all of them, but I do link to several. There's no problem. As long as you don't do 'Part 1, Part 2, etc.

Edit: Yes, if you linked from one to the next, I'm sure it would be fine.

Thank you, Bev, for the helpful reply.

I used the same image at the beginning of each part. Hopefully, those interested in the topic will make it to the profile page and figure that out. It looks like I'll be busy editing.

An issue would be if you use similar keywords in the title, then because of the site Diversity changes made by Google last year, you may be competing with yourself for placement high up in the SERPs. They limit similar results from the same domain. Sometimes they may be listed. I have two lawn mower troubleshooting guides (basic and advanced with common keywords used) and they appear together on the first page. However an electrical engineering hub which uses similar keywords and is on the the same topic as an older hub by another author doesn't rank for these keywords, even though it's much longer with more comprehensive information.
