A Possible "SEO" trick. And got any?

Awhile back I'd removed the ads from one of my dead-traffic HP articles. That article has now come back to life and I've put the ads back. Does cause and effect apply here? I have no idea. Might be worth trying on those articles that aren't earning anything anyway.

Anyone got any SEO ideas they want to share?

Everyone should update their articles right now. People are at home Googling. Avoid articles that directly pertain to Covid-19 as I believe they get scrutinized pretty hard by Google. But otherwise, update content - my traffic is going up and I'm sure it's because more people are home.

Yes, my overall traffic is indeed better this week. I've been waiting for that because of everyone being home, I'm surprised it took so long.

Been noticing traffic improvement too. On one article it was due to a boost from somebody posting it to Twitter. But also just a general improvement in traffic.

Indeed, traffic is rising for me too, almost 80%. But CPM is now the pits!

We're into Q2 now. That'll keep CPM down for the next 6 weeks or so. Last year CPM was about 50% higher at the beginning of April.

One trick I use is to unpublish the articles that aren't receiving any views or the viewership is very low. I update them and then republish. And voila, they do well.

But...not all of them. Some articles are better buried or offered to people who like stealing other people's works smile

Was thinking something like this would work.

I have a few articles (elsewhere) that are candidates for this. When Google is adamant about ignoring an article for 5 years, it's time to start over.

Hey Ben, how long do you leave them unpublished before you republish an updated version? I have a few I’d like to try that with, and I’m assuming that works because Google indexes it as a new article and starts the ranking process from scratch.

    Just an interesting note.

I have an article whose traffic directly indicates the country's mood concerning COVID, social distancing, self-quarantining, etc. The lower the traffic, the more concerned people are. Needless, to say, the traffic has precipitously and steadily dropped. Oddly, the traffic has bounced back a little bit; way too soon for that. A chart of this article's traffic over the next few months will be very interesting. I wish there was some way I could capitalize on the information.

The traffic on my "mood indicator article" has actually continued to improve some more. The news media reports are the worst yet, but the panic mode of the general public seems to be abating, though still seeing signs of continued hoarding.

My traffic has also gone up and so has my CPM. I hope things stay this way and that even after covid disappears (hopefully soon), people would have learnt the habit of turning to the internet to pass their time.

My traffic is continuing to go up. People are probably getting worn down by the same headlines, worded differently each day. I know that I'm no longer checking the news for updates - I know the gist - stay home, stay safe, save lives.

While some of my articles are seeing a dip in traffic, articles that pertain to home care, health (yes, health!) and babies/pregnancy are staying steady or going up. It's not in our best interest to put specific terms in our articles, like "Coronavirus" or "Covid-19" because those aren't technically evergreen search terms. However, it looks like this pandemic will continue for a good part of the year if not more and focusing on content that includes homesteading, interpersonal relationships, cooking, recipes, saving money, etc. are not only evergreen but especially relevant right now.

Well, it's interesting, I would think there is a saturated market for Coronavirus articles right now. I wouldn't write specifically on it but I think you're right, related subjects might be the way to go. Personally I'll just write whatever I write, probably not related at all to the current crisis.

Just think, with everyone staying at home together and looking for things to do, around 2033 we'll be talking about the generation of 'Quaranteens' big_smile
