Year over year I'm doing okay with views, down at times, but doing well lately. The one thing that has changed is my HubPages Ad Program earnings. They are down significantly around 30% to 40% versus last year. Does anyone have an explanation?

Yes, the shutdown due to the pandemic.  Businesses have less money to spend.  Consumers are unemployed and not able to spend.

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! It makes sense.

Unfortunately, earnings are down right now. But you have to think long term. I am writing now for earnings from the future (I hope anyway).

Good point! I've been publishing on HubPages for 9 years. I've been through a lot of ups and downs here. It eventually bounces back. At least the people who run HubPages haven't done anything to annoy writers lately. There were a few things they did over the years that caused writers to leave in droves. It made me consider other platforms at times too, but I decided to stay because the functionality here is very good and makes publishing easy.

I agree. I have my own website now as well but I still write for HubPages because of how fun and easy the process is.

Yeah, it's pretty abysmal. I mean, for the most part I could usually count on a relatively decent income that helped put me over the top with my lack of funds for bills. But now it's like spare change.

Sorry to hear that. My income on this site is down about 35% year over year. Kind of stinks because I was projecting that it would grow and the expected growth was motivating me to write more. Now, I'm in limbo, although I still love to write.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't know, there have been slumps like this before and it eventually picks back up.

It could be worse. Travel is down about 80% or more, both here and elsewhere.

Good point. I was just wondering why and the lack of advertising spending makes sense.

I feel your pain. Since so many people are at home, I currently have double the amount of views as usual. But the earnings are lower than they were even when I had half the traffic. I suppose it's because no one's advertising right now. It's more than a little frustrating, but I'm looking forward to reaching the ten million view accolade.

It is all related to advertising revenue and if that goes down everything nosedives.
