Color me confused. I have recipe articles and I always put my rating capsule at the bottom of the recipe. After the reader has had a chance to preview my instructions and images.

I see a lot of recipe articles with this capsule at the top? Does it matter where it is? If I move them to the top that does that help in anyway with google ranking, or is it just having them in general?

Personally I am not going to rate a recipe as soon as I land on the article. I am also not likely to scroll back to the top once I have read through the article either.

Is there a magic placement for recipe ratings? Am I missing something?

I agree with your thoughts on the matter, Cynthia. I have the same opinion that the rating capsule needs to be at the bottom because that’s the only time a reader will have made a decision to rate the recipe.

However, one of the editors a long time ago insisted that I place it at the top because that’s when readers will see it and decide if the article is worth reading.

Nevertheless, that editor allowed me to make my own decision and she let me place it at bottom as I had wanted to do.

It’s problematic for sure. The only real solution would be to let a reader rate a recipe after reading it, and to show the results at the top.  But that’s not an easy task. It would require  programming two capsules that feed data to one another. I don’t think it’s worth the effort with the programming department. HubPages has more crucial things to deal with.

Regarding rankings on Google or any other search engine, it should not change anything. Glenn has some good points about showing the reader the stats before they begin, but not many would go up to rate it once done reading.

I don't write recipe hubs, but I do search for them and I personally click on top results and I cherry-pick ones that have a good rating. I personally do not look for the rating once I have clicked through because I already know that it was rated well.

It should be at the bottom. If it is above reader will leave the page after finishing the article and may be writing comment and then rating remains unattended.

Good to know I am not alone, I just see it frequently on delishably and other websites. It just seemed like common sense in a way for it to be at the bottom.

I would hate to have someone rate a recipe of mine that actually did not take the time to read it all the way through. Positive or negative, you cannot provide an opinion based on a title and image alone.
