Question about sending DMCA complaints

    Hello all,

    I’m finally getting around to catching the thieves of my articles.

    How do I send a DMCA complaint when there is no contact info? Do I send it to the host?

      I almost always send it to the host. It's usually removed pretty fast.

        Thanks Chef - I sent them five notices. It's a good way to take care of this ordeal in one swipe. I hope, anyway.

    I've searched for a way to contact wordpress dot org but haven't had success - any suggestions? They have a support team but I have to be signed up to submit a question.

      That's because the .org versions of WP are privately hosted. For example, I have a Wordpress-based site hosted at Hostgator. So you have to put the domain name into a whois site to find the host.

    I very, very rarely send the DMCA notice to the webmaster.   I go straight to the hosting company.

    The thing is, most of the time, if someone has stolen your HubPages article, they KNOW they're stealing - and they know that if they ignore you, nothing will happen.  Whereas if you go to the host, the host will threaten to close down their site and that will force them to take action.     

    Do make sure you are using the right method to submit your DMCA.  A lot of hosts have a special email address and an official form that you have to use, and they'll ignore any DMCA's submitted by any other method.   

    The way to find it is to Google the name of the host + "abuse" or "DMCA" e.g. "GoDaddy abuse" or "GoDaddy DMCA"
