Is the word "badass" too risque for a hub title? I suppose I could substitute "cool" or "awesome" or such, but the former better fits the genre I'm writing for (video games). Based on this forum (linked below) a few years back, some "mild" profanity is allowed, but this would be in the article title, not just the body. Thanks!

I'd avoid it in the title at all costs. I've gotten past the "ads disabled" immediately status by changing and avoiding titles that bring the "unfavorable" topic front and center.
Like my article, "Bipartisan Solutions to the Abortion Problem in America," was immediately disallowed ad revenue by the algorithm. Without me asking, a HubPages moderator allowed revenue once more despite the topic being frowned upon by HubPages expressly.
You can get away with much, but I advise not pressing the boundaries. Although, badass is a common term that no one should have quarrels with by my standards.
I have seen "badass" used in titles of articles and I think at least one of them was on one of the HP niche sites. I personally think you are okay. The word has effect so I say use it if you can. If HP doesn't approve of it, they will edit it or you can change it. Personally, I would go for it.
Thanks, that's what I'm thinking too, give it a shot, change it later if needed.
The good news: Google apparently loves the word.
The bad news: no matter how good your article, it will never see the front page due to the current competition.
Possibly, but it's in regards to a Pokemon article, and those seem to be pretty popular (based on my experience writing about them).
If it works for that subject go for it. I added the word "badass" to my article on tough dog names and it is now has much better traffic. Some searchers must just look for that word, and based on other articles I have seen on the niche sites I do not think HP has a problem with it or will penalize it in any way.
I didnt realize there were badass pokemon though. I am obviously out of the loop here.

I'm relatively new to this site.I know most sites of its type do their best to be "Google friendly" which translates into "family friendly" (a phrase I hate, by the way). Over the years when tempted to use profanity either in a title or in the body of an article (and I can...

Shortly after my work was moved from Squidoo to HubPages through the ill-conceived buyout, I sent an email to staff, asking if occasional profanity was allowed and explaining in what context I intended to use it. I had started serializing a science fiction novel on Squidoo, and, as is common in...
