Just curious, for those of you who manage to excel here, how long in time or how many articles did it take before you started seeing significant progress? I kind of set up a loose amount of time to try, and I want to see if it is realistic. I know a lot depends on the type of articles and quantity, but I am not worried about quantity. I realize that years ago it was probably much easier because now everyone is creating articles.I am especially interested in anyone's experience that has been here three years or less. (I know that is eliminating a lot of you who are really helpful, but I am not sure your experience would be as relevant.) I am sorry this is so long.
Sadly, there is no definitive time until you make it big. Mileage varies from writer to writer, but there are some things that I have learned and some things that others have taught me:
1) Be consistent. If you have a set topic or a set perspective, make sure to stick to this as much as possible. That isn't to say that your opinions cannot change, just that you have a constant style of your articles.
2) Make time and post predictably. Just like with being consistent, you have to set aside a consistent schedule to release your articles; the only catch is that this platform doesn't have the means to prepare and schedule in advance your articles, so you will need to plan what you want to write, and set time aside to write it in its entirety. If not, at least write your basic thoughts and come back later, if there is no deadline involved.
3) Enjoy what you do. No point in making articles for money when the effort is poor and the passion is non-existent. People want something to read, so you have to bring an energy to your work that makes it worth reading.
While you requested those that have been here for less than three years, and my profile says I've had my account for five, I've REALLY been active for about 14 months (1 year, 2 months) so this should be within parameters.
Good luck in your writing and can't wait to see you succeed as well!
I doubt you are going to get many worthwhile replies from people who have been at this that short a time. I just went to my stats page to check this after reading your question, and found that I only have a few of the recent articles (mid 2017 or newer) in my top 20%, which are the earners.
Years ago I read that if you are doing well here you should be getting about $100 a month after about a year. I do not know if that is true anymore, but it does provide a goalpost. It usually takes a lot longer than that for most articles to start earning significantly, as articles have to be bookmarked and build up backlinks from blogs and other websites.
As far as a number it is hard to even estimate. I have only seen one person do this with a few articles but he works in SEO and concentrates on making sure each article answers all of the potential readers questions. I have also seen people write here and have hundreds of articles and still not be earning much (based on the page views visible through the accolades).
If you end up being an exception to this $100 a month "rule", and do better even faster, be sure to post something on the forums to encourage newbies. It would not be bragging, just helpful!
I would doubt it. Right now, my goal is just to double each preceding month. This month I was successful in doing more than that, but that does not necessarily mean I will be able to continue to do so. I am also writing articles that I want to be in google's system before I expect readers to be searching for them. Anyway, if I am successful, it will just be because I am stubborn and am willing to put in the time for now. (I am also spending a lot of time at home right now.) Anyway, it was kind of you to go back and look up that info for me, so thank you so much.
You´re welcome. Your question was interesting and it was well worth going back and looking at those stats again. I saw a comment from CYong yesterday and he mentioned that he was writing on new subject matters (he mainly wrote on travel in the eastern part of the world) and he said nothing he wrote this year has had significant traffic. Neither have mine, but in a few years who knows?
Not an answer to your question, but regarding your article titled "Glazing Breads: It's All About the Crust". Note that I did not look at or read it, but no matter how well written and informative it is, it is unlikely people are going to find it. No one is going to be googling, "what's glazing bread all about". You could rank for glazing bread, but that may not happen and if it does it may take a while, until then you won't be found very easily. Having a lot of articles such as this may not make you a lot of money if no one can find them through search engines.
I don't think I have too many like that, but thank you for your input as you are correct about certain topics. (Of course, it is unlikely you are a bread baker.) If I want instant cash, I am a professional level somewhere that pays quickly. I have been writing blogs for a long time with optimization and correct densities, but the beauty of writing here is not the money, it is the ability to write whatever I feel like. Nevertheless, there is a threshold where it would not pay timewise, so I will have to balance that at some point. There is so much out there now that I know it takes way longer than when I started years ago. I am new to Hub, but not to other sites. Based on my increase so far, I will probably be on point for my goals, but it is too early to tell. That being said, the glazing article, which has been up only a short time is not my best for views, but certainly nowhere near my worst. There are writers here that do well and write on topics that are very narrow, but surprisingly attract attention, so I am not sure anyone can predict what topic will excel.
Once again, thank you for offering your opinion. I appreciate your time and thoughts.

Hey all! Does anyone have any success writing for other websites? I'm finding that my views on my articles are up (it's all hair stuff, and everyone is doing their hair at home across the world), but my earnings are going down further and further. As we know, the Amazon issue isn't helping... Here's...

I was just curious for those of you who write for Medium and/or Substack, how your earnings compare to what you make on Hubpages. Do you think it's worthwhile writing for these sites? I look forward to everyone's insight. Thank you.

The Medium platform sounds great. Writers' income does not come from advertising (yay!) but from a chunk of the membership fees. But here is the catch: As a non paid up member you are only allowed to read three articles per month for free. After that, if you are interested in a topic and want...

Maybe it's that we authors aren't active on the forums, but it seems like Hubpages isn't thriving behind the scenes these days. Do you think HP is a sinking ship?

I would like to ask if it's worth it to post my articles here for passive income. Helpful tips are kindly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I realized that the total CPM is around 15USD but only have 0.44USD in my earnings. Isn't fair and don't understand why! Explain please
