I haven't really been on here properly for a while, but I did recently write a hub, and lots of my friends here have commented. But I still can't figure out how to read theirs and then comment! Its fine if its a new article, I can scroll down the feed, but if they haven't written for a while, how on earth can I find it?

Nell, if you don’t catch their article as soon as it is written and before it is moved to discover or a niche site, the only option is to find the article on your feed. The problem I find with that is that, for some reason, not everyone I follow shows up on my feed. It should be sorted in the second quarter of the year, so hopefully before June.

The only way to comment is through the feed, and as to when that will change is anyone's guess. They're vague with their plans for reinstating comments except for, "we're working on it," or, "soon."

If you have a specific author you want to read and comment on, and can't find them in your feed, then you have to go to their profile page. Unfortunately, you won't be able to comment without finding them in your feed if they haven't written in a while.

I opt for emails if I feel a comment is necessary, but usually I just make sure to visit my favorite authors' pages when I get the time and pick up where I left off reading so they at least get some traffic from me.

Yes, it is a lengthy process. Searching the article on the feed is very tough if you are late by two days. Keep scrolling down and down till you find the hub and then only you can post your comment.

Even if you are able to find out easily and read the article through their Profiles, you should go to the feed page for commenting.

What I did this time was, as most had older hubs so I couldn't find them, I stayed on my hub and answered there, opened another tab and found the person I was looking for through Google. Phew!

Nell, I couldn't catch the meaning of your sentence "I stayed on my hub and answered there...". You answered their comments on your hub or replied to their posts on your own page?

I've actually enjoyed a break from comments, to be honest. I may even just turn them off when they return. I used to spend a lot of time okaying them, and many weren't that interesting, or they repeated what had been said earlier by another commenter. I even had some attacking me when I was just listing pros and cons of things, not really expressing a personal opinion.

Therefore, I am not sure that I see a great deal of value in comments, though supposedly Google can view them favorably, seeing them essentially as a kind of update, I don't know how true that is?

I mainly like them because it lets other hubbers know I read their articles.
