Hi, guys! I would like to know if it's possible for my article to be featured on one of the niche sites given that there's a similar article present already. However, I am pretty much confident that mine would be more insightful and helpful to readers since the existing article is barely a list only.

I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions about this. If there's a HubPages editor out there who could answer me on this, would be most helpful.

    Thanks, guys.

If the URL and content within is different then there shouldn't be an issue in titles being exactly the same from an indexing standpoint. However, it would probably be best to create a more-unique title, unless you want to take the time to try to convince the other author to relinquish the title to you.

I'm interested to see if HP staff would have a suggestion on how to deal with this, as well, because this seems like it would be a pretty common issue.

There's an extensive section on titles in the learning center. As titles relate to keywords, you shouldn't use the same one unless you believe that you can do substantially better than existing content. https://hubpageshelp.com/content/Learni … ndly-Title

Thank you for reiterating what I said with a link, I always forget newer individuals don't know about the learning center.

I don't think there's a ban on covering a topic already on HubPages, but have to use a different title.

I usually do a search before writing on a topic. If it's already covered on a niche site I leave it alone and find another topic. However, if it's languishing on HP it's fair game to write a better version.

Generally, I would avoid it. The only exception to that rule might be if the existing article doesn't rank very well and you're convinced that you can do better, but even that is a little iffy. And like Rupert says, you can't use the exact same title because it uses the title to generate a unique url for the article.

Your article will be in competition with the other article and because of the Google Site Diversity changes implemented a couple of years ago (limiting the number of webpages in SERPs from the same domain), your article may not appear in search results if someone searches for a phrase that has keywords common to the other article. I ran into this problem and had to have a guide moved to another niche site. No matter what I did, my guide didn't turn up in SERPs for the pretty much essential three keywords that I had to use.

Edit: It's not one of my guides on Owlcation by any chance? yikes
