Is there any value to sharing an article to social media right away?

I used to do it, stopped doing it and now I just did it. But is there any value to sharing it before it even gets featured or not?

I always wait until new hubs get moved to a niche site. Then I can post the final URL. If we post the HubPages URL and Google bots pick that up, I think it ends up having a lower ranking because of the way Google ranks HubPages much lower than the network niche sites.

It’s true that there is a 301 redirect so the url is not broken, but ranking could also be negatively effected by reduction. So my advice is to wait for the move to a niche site. My new hubs always get moved within a couple of days anyway.

Good point, Glenn. I share too soon thinking it will get a jumpstart on views. But what you're saying makes sense. Thanks for the sage advice from a real pro. wink

A bit off-topic but may I ask how does one gets his article moved to a niche site?

New hubs are automatically considered once featured. For older hubs you can submit one every 14 days. Visit an existing hub and select submit to a niche site. Read all the 11 or 14 points that you need to confirm and make sure your hub meets those standards. Additionally, every niche site has a set of guidelines that you need to follow to get a hub moved there. It is worth checking those out.

How do you know when your hub has been moved to a niche site?

Question is too vague. It depends on the social media. For example. Twitter, you can promote something multiple times so doesn't matter if you promote from the get-go. Pinterest, likely best waiting to get it on a niche, if you only want to pin once (there's always the option to pin for HP and pin for niche using different photos?). I don't think "social media" can be treated as one thing. It's an umbrella term. There's multiple media, each with different approaches.

I guess my question was more about the link itself. Not sure. Was trying to dig a bit for whatever answer came, because I've noticed social media never has worked for me and I wondered why. I have far more success in the search engine than any social media "campaign". So, I've always wondered if it actually had an adverse effect on the link to share on social media too soon and Glenn and Marisa confirmed that it does, which is kind of what I suspected.

Though, I get your point. I've noticed the same kind of thing.

If you got an audience for the content you share, social media is great. Some people share my hubs no Facebook and I get like a bunch of views around 100 or so every other day. If I were to share it I would not get many, because my friends are not the right audience.

I disagree with Glenn for two reasons:
    EDIT: make that three.

    1. Google crawls your profile page and you can do nothing to prevent it from crawling a new featured hub that is not yet moved to a niche site. It's all a game of chance because a move to a niche site on Dengarden takes 2-3 days once featured, for example.
    2. Most of the hubs doing well on niche sites were once on Hub Pages before the niche sites were created. They are doing great now even though they have a redirect from HubPages.
    3. There are billions of websites out there (literally) and millions of pages being published every day, it is very unlikely that Google is going to waste resources keeping historical data of pages, such as their old URL. All that matters would be the current standing of a page. If something such as the old URL damages the reputation of a page, there would be a lot of negative SEO folk out there that buy crappy domains and just redirect pages to their competitions' existing pages.

I would say don't think twice about sharing. I would personally not do it until it is moved to a niche site, but this is just because the related and popular sections on the sidebar often feature some of my other work.

Makes sense. Funny thing is, I ended up leaving things as they are, with the original main domain link to the article.

wow, if I.had to wait until I get email to.inform me that my particular hub.is moved to a niche site, it will take months!

anyway, I still share my new hub links to.social media sites, do.not help much though.

I found that interacting with hubbers help to get someone to read my hubs instead of social media
