How do you know when you're happy with a hub?

   Is it all about the traffic or subsequent sales? Or do you take a more intrinsic view of when you're happy with a hub?

      I don't think I ever was entirely pleased with any article, to be honest. That goes even beyond writing here on HubPages. I always feel like something could have been improved or written more appealingly. There's no article out there that's 100% top-notch.
      
      Every piece can be improved, but as a writer, one needs to know when it's time to let go and move on. Otherwise, you wouldn't get anything done.

   I constantly edit hubs, some have been edited maybe one hundred times. Most articles are guides, so I try to make the flow and layout as simple as possible, illustrated with good photos and clear diagrams, so that they're really easy to follow. Once I do that, I'm as happy as I can be, but it's frustrating to still have articles outranked by thin content, just because they're on well known websites. I do change titles every so often if articles aren't doing well and I add more content  to them if that's possible. Sometimes an article is so self-contained and comprehensive that it just spoils it and makes it overly fussy if an attempt is made to add extra material. I can't get an answer though as to whether Google really wants fresh content in these types of guides. Unfortunately, from my experience, it appears Google just dumps old articles, no matter how good the quality, in favour of fresh, thin content.

   I agree with what other people have said. There comes a time when we have to say that we are satisfied with the article and it must be published. It can be updated later on.
   
   Some of my updates are news related to the topic that has appeared since I published the article, but others are ways in which I’ve expressed my ideas. I’m sometimes upset that I submitted an article with a passage that wasn’t completely clear, even though I proofread the article before I published it.
