Some of My Articles Have a Gray Horizontal Bar Across The Screen

Some of my articles, such as "The History of Global Warming and Origin of the Term Climate Change" have a gray horizontal bar across the screen on a laptop. It stays there as I scroll down and makes it hard to read the article. Does it have anything to do with the HubPages intro video that automatically appears at the top of articles? This is not a problem with all of my articles. How can it be fixed? Can I send HubPages the names of the ones that it happens in? I tried the Chrome and Edge browsers, and the problem occurred in both.

Not heard of or seen this myself but yes, you should definitely email the team and Matt Wells and ask them for help.

Thanks! It's definitely the "Welcome to HubPages" video. I looked at the article on my iPhone and the gray bar briefly appeared, then became the video. Personally, I think the video is a distraction to readers. Not sure why they need to have it on articles? They don't have such distractions on other sites that publish articles.

Send a link to team@hubpages.com and we will investigate.

It's the placeholder background for the banner ad at the top of the screen. If you have ads turned off, it follows you down the screen and obscures half the viewport by the time the oversized menus on the network sites, address bar, tool bar menu and tabs are taken into account. It only appears on some of the network sites.

The video is certainly an obstruction to us. You can't turn off it. It hangs there at the top of any article. I already voiced my concern at it on a different forum post.

Why do the HP team force it on us (already members) or any new comer to the site to sign up for the site? It's just like spamming you with all vehemence.

Regarding the horizontal bar that blocks your articles, it is an advertisement that scrolls down along with your eyes. Just click the X button on your left side to make it disappear.

Yes, HubPages is strict about not including spammy elements in our articles, yet they have a spammy promotional video automatically attached to our articles that really is a distraction to a reader. It's the kind of thing that could cause people not to click on future articles they come across in searches that are on the HubPages site. I'm sure there are more subtle ways HubPages could advertise to newcomers to join without a noisy video that takes up space while they're trying to concentrate and read our articles.
