Embedding Videos

    Hello
I would like to embed TikTok videos (specifically, Chinese TikTok videos, so Douyin, although the embed code is the same of the international TikTok, but only the URL changes). It seems that currently the editing page doesn't allow TikTok videos embedding (and of course Douyin videos), but I also know the feature exists somewhere since News on niche sites occasionally feature TikTok videos.

My question is: is there a way to embed TikTok / Douyin videos in our articles? Even by submitting the article manually in some other way to the editors and providing them with the links? Or is there another way I can make a compilation of videos and refer to them in the articles? (I don't think plain links are that good, especially if I have tons of videos to talk about, but it's an idea).

    Thanks in advance

Why do you want to use Chinese TikToks on an English language site?

Videos are not spoken. They are trends, viral videos with pets, pranks… there's no spoken parts, just background music, exactly like many international TikTok videos. Therefore, these videos can be perfectly watched by an international audience.

To take Caren's question a bit deeper: Many US states have banned TikTok because of possible governmental infiltration by unfriendly countries and the fact that children are getting seriously injured and even dying by respondinding/reacting/to TikTok challenges.

YouTube and Vimeo videos are the only accepted formats to  implement into our articles.

If you want to go the TikTok route, Allessio, I suggest you create your own TikTok account and/or put them on your personal website.

This is not the place for TikTok. I'm not sure there even is an acceptable place for TikTok in the American market.

You're on an American-based site..Abide by the TOS for posting on HP and don't overstep boundaries, whether personal or political.

Just some friendly advice. Do with it what you will.

          Dear @bravewarriors
Thanks for explanation. I didn't know that some American states have banned TikTok, and don't know how the service is popular in the US. Being European, I know nothing of these regulations, so good you explained me this better I don't even intend to discuss boundaries or political views, so if it's the reasons you explain, no problems at all, and I can even eventually consider your idea (having a personal website maybe just for these kinds of articles, since I'm more than happy with HP, that despite having a past as a web developer, I never really considered to create another website).

Fact is that some HP articles (specifically, News on niche sites) have TikTok videos embedded.  @Joshua Crowder noted this too in a past post he linked before: https://hubpages.com/community/forum/35 … s-articles

That made me assume that HP has nothing against TikTok embedding, and maybe doesn't strictly follow what may be the US opinion on TikTok. The fact that HP is even accessible in China (yes I happily read and edit my articles while there) made me more aware that the site, despite being of course American-based, still targets an international audience, and is not really politically-focused (this is just an extra opinion, nothing to do with TikTok).

Of course I may be totally wrong, but my question really rose since I have seen TikTok videos in news articles posted by HP staff (something suggesting that they are accepted here), and that made me wonder if there could be a way for authors too.

I think it might have more to do with the portrait format of TikTok videos. These only became hugely popularly in recent years so many content management systems and themes are unable to properly support them.

I thought of a workaround: you could create a compilation video on your YouTube channel (if you have one) with TikToks you want to write about crediting each creator you feature and then embed your video in  your hub.

It's actually what I managed to do ultimately. I chatted with the Douyin support staff within the Chinese version of TikTok and asked if it was allowed to do a compilation (of course by leaving the watermarks and credits visible, and by using only videos that the creators have explicitly allowed for download). Not everyone agree if it is something legal or not, and it is especially important to refer to the specific TOS of the service. In the case of Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), I got assurance that there's no issue at all in making a compilation: the watermarks are visible, authors are credited, the main purpose is to comment videos and rank the funniest (I use Douyin every day, and even have a profile there, so I have endless ideas for articles about it). I don't know about the international TikTok app, but for my specific needs I am okay now. Of course, there is an additional thing, that my compilation (being on HP) will mostly target people who don't use the Chinese TikTok app, so my blog post does no harm at all to Douyin and its creators (the creators maybe are even happy if someone talks about their videos outside China).

Still I hope someday a TikTok embedding feature will be added to HP for everyone. Then, once the feature is available, TikTok or Douyin will be the same, they both support the same embedding code.
