Has anyone else noticed a significant decrease in earnings since the site didn't update analytics for several days?

Since I've started being more active on here, I was finally up to averaging 200-250 views/day and the past week it has been a steady decline (-50% atm).

      Yes. It's a huge swoop.

I’ve noticed this too. And this is despite updating a handful of my articles in the past few days.

Yes, a significant decline of about 25%. Interestingly, I am trialing the Semrush software and ran an audit on my articles. It showed site-wide warnings that could explain some issues with site performance, namely:

      - low text to HTML ratio (a higher text to HTML ratio means the site would have a better chance of getting a good position in search results)
      - unminied JavaScript and CSS files (minifying JavaScript and CSS files makes their size smaller, decreasing page load time, providing a better user experience and improving search engine rankings)

I have forwarded the report to the HubPages I.T. department and am awaiting a response. I will be interested to see if some simple fixes can turn this traffic problem around for the better.

Cloverleaf, Smart move. I look forward to seeing how HP IT responds.

We appreciate the information. The sites are continuously reviewed by the team, and if there are any technical issues with the site, they will be addressed.

No, the complete opposite, think it might be dependent on the subject.

Yes sallybea I've been a little afraid to weigh in but I have more traffic and more income than most years at this time. CPM is way down, true, but traffic and sales are making up for that!

Don't think we should be afraid to say it as it is.  It may give encouragement to others.

Right! I guess I didn't want to sound insensitive to our friends' struggles. There have always been ups and downs in my 10 years with HP and it's easy to get discouraged.

CPM seems to be dropping and it's mid Q3 when it should be at its peak. I'm only earning a quarter of what I earned a couple of years ago. So all those extra ads are pointless. I wish I could turn off ads and just place a few sponsored ads of my own. Maybe I'll republish elsewhere.

Sorry, Q4. Last year, CPM was 50% higher at this time.

That's the worst thing. The decline is continuing, we've not even bottomed out.

I did something similar a few months ago and got similar results about sitewide issues. Since then, I've been trying to share across various social platforms in hopes of something "going viral" for a little boost. But, hopefully, they will address those issues. Otherwise, all the strict rules they have for us make little sense.

Yes, you're right. We've been after answers for two years or more. So far, nowt! Let us know if you get a sensible response. I would've thought that technical issues such as those mentioned above by Cloverleaf would be right up Matt Wells's street?

Yes. It makes we wonder if their form edit replies are even valid.

A few years back, Black Friday was a phenomenal time for Amazon earnings for me. Nowadays, I'll feel lucky if I earn a couple of dollars. Sad times.

viryabo - Right! I went through and started updating my lowest-rated articles (48-60) and got them bumped up to 70-80, but it still shows they're only getting the occasional view or two. It's been a while since I recall anything going to a niche site.

chef-de-jour - The site has had SEO issues for that long. No wonder I can't ever get my articles to rank well.

Kenna McHugh - If what Chef said about them letting site issues go on for years, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not all auto responses based on templates or even AI. It would only make sense if they fixed the SEO issues, the content ranks better, and them even more $.

It's been going on for over two years. A series of algo updates. HP've barely had time to react to one when the next one strikes.

Maybe I'm jaded but I'm not sure if there's really much new that can be said on the subject at this stage.

There's a long response from Angel in the thread I started called The Decline of Dengarden.

I've been safe so far. It must be a topic based problem.

PaulGoodman67posted 5 months agoin reply to this

Yes, the majority of your articles are published on Discover, where the viewing figures have always been low. The large drops have been on the topic-based niches, which historically get far more search engine traffic.

True true, and no one goes to the fourm to say "wow my views have doubled"

'no one goes to the fourm (sic) to say "wow my views have doubled"'

If my memory serves me correctly, they do express that, or something similar, when the site is doing well.

Yeah, I only got a handful to niche sites so far, but not from a lack of revising/updating and trying.

However, even out of the, maybe 5 or 6 I have on niche sites, the Employee Rewards brings in 100-250/day (avg), 2nd best is Forgotten Web Browsers with 15-30/day (avg), the other 59 Hubs, 0-10/day.

If anyone tosses suggests at me for the Hubs I can't get off Discover, I'll try updating again. Otherwise, I gave up. sad
