When you join two different images from two different sources in a single graphic, how do you credit both authors within the same image capsule?

    TIA

Do you mean if you combine the two images into one? You can't place a caption under both of them, but the text of the caption can credit both sources, but only one link to a licence/source is possible. You can add two images in a photo capsule, but it just places one image above the other, not side by side. Both of the images can be credited individually. Often images may have the same licence, so only one link to the licence nay be needed for both images if they're composited. I usually link to the image source page rather than the licence though.

        Hi eugbug

It's two images combined into one, side by side. I'll credit both in the text as you suggest.  They have different licenses, though, but can place one within the text and link the other. Thanks a lot.

Dan, I checked out your HP page. Nice work! I have a question: What software do you use to join the images? Are they side by side?

        Hi Kenna

Yes, they are side by side.  I used GIMP (open source) to combine both graphics into one.  I Started with a new document (empty blank canvas), and then opened each graphic separately. I cropped each graphic so that I could have a combined total of 1280 wide by 720 height pixels (roughly) because this is the ideal size for publication. Finally, imported each image into the first canvas and placed them side by side ("copy" and "paste as" "New layer").  Sometimes it's hard to make two or more images fit into a restricted space--depending on what you are trying to accomplish--without distorting one or the other. I've been using GIMP for editing and have had good results. I only use some basic functions. You can learn how to use some of the commands and a few tricks by watching tutorials on YouTube.

Dan, thanks for the information. I have used GIMP but got lost in the techie stuff. I will take another jab at it and see what happens.

Usually you can just create a blank image, then open the two images you want to merge. Copy and paste them one by one as layers onto the blank image you created earlier. Next reposition the layer for each image (There's usually a layer moving tool). Finally crop everything, resize if necessary and save, which will merge the background and two overlaid layers into a flat image. That's the way I do it, maybe there's a function in the program for putting two selected images side by side.

Edit: I just read how Dan does it and it's more or less the same. However I crop after placing images side by side so I don't have to align them perfectly vertically.

I've been using Paint Shop Pro for over 30 years, since the days when it was a shareware product. the latest version is around $75. It's sort of the poor man's version of Adobe Photoshop, but is very capable.

I used to use Paint when it was a shareware. Thanks for the tip.

If you have made a collage of 2 or more pictures from different sources, you may mention the sources, via----, and add 'modified by the author.'
