do forum threads with 30,000 posts slow up a forum loading?

just wondering about the threads that have thousands of posts?
shouldn't they be closed and new thread started?  hmm

lately the site seems slower and I  usually don't have a problem. I have the latest firefox browser.
    anyone else?

Large posts increase the database size which can slow down performance.  However I am assuming Hubpages has some pretty decent servers to cope with this!

It would still be a good idea to clear away the longer threads every so often though!

I have my browser open now with a number of sites open, the HP loader is still spinning. why? it doesn't do it all of the time and usually doesn't if I don't have the forum open, does it make a difference? is it always refreshing?

The more sites you open, the slower you PC will work. I don't have any speed problem, but I agree that long threads should be removed. The thing is, When ?. Nobody would like to post and be left without an answer.

I don't know, that would be their decision. I usually do have a number of sites open and never have a problem, so I'm just trying to narrow down what may be the issue.
