I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever entered a writing contest and if so...which ones? Was there an entry fee? Was publication offered as a prize or not?
I'm looking into writing contest's, but don't really like the idea of an entry fee...unless I can't find a contest without one!
So You were planning on being competitive or just kicking butt?
One good example is Writers Digest, which is a leading publication, and their contest has been around for a long time. They do have entry fees, cash prizes, and the top prize is a trip to connect with NY agents and publishers.
The real question you should be asking yourself about, maybe, is not free or not; but whether or not the contest is reputable. Otherwise, winning won't do you much good.
That's true and what I was trying to get at...how do I find reputable contests?
I'll see if I can find Writers Digest - thanks.
Entry fees are not in themselves suspect. I suggest you check out Writers Beware for some guidelines on what is reputable:
