I really do like the suggestion link, But.....could it be changed to Open in a NEW window or Tab?  I am all for helping promote HP, but sending readers away from my Hubs is not the right way to do that and I am not for that.
Seems in a couple of hubs where I have added the suggestion links the "duration time" has dropped a little. SO...I am thinking about doing away with all the suggestion links. If that drops the Karma score...no matter. I don't care for that anyways. I don't try to work the Karma thing, it does not make any money.

Search engines read opening new windows as being the same as pop-up window, which is not a good thing.  And it breaks the visitors ability to use the back button.  And visitors can override the function with their own preferences as set by their browser.

So having links open in a new window actually isn't that good an idea.

I see your point Relache. Which is why I also added the suggestion to add the opening in a new Tab.
I don't like the idea of sending traffic away from my hub. Would you?  That is why I would like HP to change the way the suggestion links happen or I am going to just ignore it and do away with it altogether.  And I just do not like the Karma thing anyways. It makes HP seem more like a Social network than a writer's site in my opinion.

Opening a link in a new tab is the same as opening in a new window to a search engine.

Really, I'm just repeating all the explanations for why this change won't happen that were given by Paul Deeds the last time someone asked this question.

Okay. I appreciate your response Relache.

The way I see it is then....it is time to just ignore the suggestion links then.  If opening Tabs is as bad as opening new windows, which is like pop-ups.....then HP is just hurting itself!

I will choose to help myself in HP and just stay away from the suggestion links then. Sounds like that is what Paul Deeds has said to you and others.
I will go back on HUBS and do away with ALL suggestions links as to not Hurt HP and myself.

Hmmm...seems like a waste of time for HP to even add this. What were they thinking???

Relache...like I said, I do appreciate your response. Don't take me wrong with my last comment.  What you said makes sense to me. It seems HP should adhere to their own words and do away with the suggestion links if what you said is correct.  It will only hurt HP in the end.

EDIT: Correction.......Suggestion links Only hurts the Hub Authors instead of HP. We send people away from OUR hubs. Then what is the point??????

Michael, the Link Suggestion tool benefits the site as a whole, because it increases interlinking within the site and keeps the reader within HubPages longer.

Anything that benefits HubPages must indirectly benefit all of us.  And in theory, if everyone links to each other's Hubs, what goes around should come around.

Also, if Google sees a good number of outgoing links to related sites on your Hub, they interpret that as added value - so you'll rank higher.  Which means you should get more visitors, even if you then lose some of them to those links.

Having said that, I don't add links in the text of my Hub.  Instead, I add them as reference links at the bottom of my Hub, below the comments - if a reader gets that far, they're probably not going to click on an ad anyway.

However, if you've added only two or three links per Hub and those links aren't in your first few paras, I wouldn't worry too much about them.
